I am an experimental interdisciplinary artist and printmaker photographer whose reflective work is inspired by places visited and photographed. My philosophy is “variety is the spice of life”, and though varied, you will often see recurring themes. Circles, moons, suns, trees, mountains, and oceans are in my work. The written word, since childhood, still inspires, especially poetry and lyrics, these evoke memories and feelings. I express these and the essential elements of a place or time in my art. I also create work that expresses a response to contemporary issues. Drawn to the colour blue, I enjoy making cyanotypes.

Recently I have been creating watercolours and monoprints. My limited edition and one-off prints are sometimes incorporated into hybrid mixed media art. Often collaging organic material, found objects, repurposed items, or my photographs. I move between different techniques to achieve the result I am hoping for. I explore woodcut linocut and lino etch, direct mono prints onto canvas and collograph. I also use drypoint etching and chine colle. I print onto various types of paper: handmade, Japanese, traditional, and my own hand made paper.

Visual art really began in middle life as child rearing was finishing, mainly textile based at first often featuring hand embroidery, a skill learned at school and recently rekindled. I began to make books, and paper during day classes, and a love of these crafts, fine art, photography and printmaking grew during an Access course in Art and Design at Chesterfield College of Art. Art is now my passion, some would say obsession.

Another aspect of my work is photography, plants, still life, and architecture, Several architectural photos were in Sheffield Museums and Galleries shops. And I was excited to be selected by Arup (dedicated to sustainable development) to exhibit at their 60th anniversary of being in Sheffield. Two of my Sheffield photos won competitions from Practical Photography, and The Institution of Civil Engineers, and are also in a book “Sheffield a Civilised Place” by Duncan Froggatt. Copies for sale may still be available at The Famous Sheffield Shop, and Sheffield Galleries. There is also a free downloadable PDF, a walk around significant civil engineering in central Sheffield:

Working mainly in my studio (ex-dining room) that looks on to my lovely garden. I also enjoy working at the kitchen table. I love my printing press, tools, equipment, paints, and paper that I hoard and drool over. A member of Sheffield Printmakers, I exhibit in their joint exhibitions, the next being their Winter Exhibition at Dronfield Hall Barn 4 - 10th December. I also exhibit in other local venues and occasionally attend charity craft fairs.
