Love Sheffield Artists
Introducing self-taught Sheffield artist Elesha and her bright beautiful paintings.
with Donna Lowson July 2023
Hi, I am Elesha Searles. I am a self-taught artist who enjoys using acrylic and watercolors to create bright beautiful paintings.
I take a lot of my inspiration from nature and geometrical patterns and enjoy experimenting with abstract themes as well.
I enjoy incorporating nature into my work by using leaves, sand, mud, and flowers.
I also enjoy using an element of playful surprise with the use of UV and Black light-reactive paint.
I enjoy psychedelic art from the '60s and hard-edge artists like Frank Stella and Karl Benjamin's work in creating geometrical abstract art. I'm also fascinated by more recent zentangle art and keen to incorporate that with psychedelic patterns and hard edge painting styles.
I enjoyed art and crafts as a child but never took it seriously until 2016 when suffering with a period of ill health art and painting helped me as a therapy.
Art connects me to the world around me, grounds me when I feel overwhelmed and acts as a meditation and a mindful experience.
I have exhibited at as part of the group Cast in Winter Gardens and Dina 2016, Gallery 35 - 2019 &
Sheffield Moor Market 2021
Fronteer Gallery - Refresh - group exhibition 2022
Sheffields 20 x 20 group exhibition 2023.
Solo exhibitions at the
Art House Sheffield 2018
Airy Fairy in 2020.
I have took part in International Art shows showcased by Doncaster Art fair in 2020 where I was a finalist and 800 people voted for 'Psychedelic Dream'.
My 'Teasel' painting was featured as part of the Natural History Museum Urban Nature Project fundraiser. The fundraiser featured songs and artwork linked to 'The Lost Words Spell Songs' book which responds to the removal of everyday nature words from a widely used children’s dictionary.
I was selected for the Emerging Artist category in Cooper Prize in 2021 in Barnsley with my painting 'Back to Nature'. This was brilliant to have my work in the same gallery as Turner.
I think my favourite pieces are above as below and Mycorrhizal as they both have hard edge style with uv features and have a naturalistic theme.
My goal is to show my artwork to the rest of the UK & Europe and I would love exhibit artwork at a music fesitival.
You can find more of my work on Instagram and facebook @artbyelesha.
